This is a Kickstart Role.

The Kickstart Scheme is part of the Chancellors Plan for Jobs. Employers have create high quality entry-level 6 month work placements for 25 hours per week for young people who are claiming Universal Credit and at risk of long-term unemployment. These placements will enable young people to gain experience and develop skills such as: teamwork; communication and organisational skills.

A main focus of the role will be to support with a renovation project the charity is undertaking to support our income generation and improve organisational sustainability. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the preparations for these renovations - organising, sorting and archiving resources used by the charity over our rich 100 year history. With support from the wider team, the candidate will play a key role in ensuring the space is ready for when building works begin.

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone looking to gain experience in an office environment and/or within the charity sector. The successful candidate will experience and learn about the day to day running of a charity, engaging with staff at all levels and interacting with service users. The role and responsibilities are varied and not limited to those listed above – and can be tailored to the interests of the successful candidate. Duties

Under the close support and supervision of the Senior Operations Manager, the post holder will be responsible for carrying out office facilitation and
administration duties, to support wider services operations.

Key responsibilities:

Activities will be varied and will include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Post duties, which will include sorting, distributing and delivery (both physical and digital) of legal and other mail.
  • Assisting with stationery and business supplies, and maintaining regular stock checks.
  • Assisting with health and safety matters for the offices, such as first aid, fire alarm and fire drill management, as well as assisting with maintaining a high standard Covid-free office.
  • Administration and facilities support across the offices/buildings, such as assisting with office set up, moving desks, reallocation of office space.
  • Acting as the first point of contact in relation to faulty facilities equipment and liaison with managers. Document storage and file retrieval. Other ad hoc

Essential criteria

Essential skills and attributes required for the post are set out below.

  • Computer literacy in relevant software packages (Word, Excel & Outlook).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills. This will mean that the candidate is capable of prioritising different and sometimes conflicting demands either on their own initiative or through manager’s support. Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Reliable with good time keeping and punctuality
  • Taking a flexible attitude to work
  • Capable of manual handling
  • Takes initiative to find work in quiet periods
  • Ability to follow instruction given

Working Pattern:

25 hors week. 7 hours per day over three days per week – 9.30am to 5.30pm - work days are flexible.

Employability Support:

Accessing Islington Council’s Employability Support Package. Providing support for young the person in the development of their employability skills. They will benefit from seamless wrap-around support at formative and summative periods within their placements. The support will be flexible so as to meet the varying needs of individuals.

The post holder will also have access to training Elfrida can offer like joining meetings to develop communication skills, working at a small org will enable
them to support in lots of aspects of the day to day running of the charity, access to networks in local area, digital support, thorough induction to the
charity, as well as access to formal training though our organisational outsourced employee training
